About the Tamil Language Council

Objective

Tamil Language Council was formed in 2000 under the auspices of then Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA).

The TLC aims to promote awareness and greater use of Tamil language within the Tamil speaking community in Singapore, especially young Tamil Singaporeans. To achieve this, it works closely with government agencies and educational institutions, Indian organisations and community partners, to ensure that activities are accessible and as many people as possible can participate in such programmes.

The TLC spearheads the annual Tamil Language Festival (TLF) which began in 2007. Since then, it has become a signature event for the community. It brings together the efforts of the various organisations in the Tamil community, with the aim to develop and deepen the love for the language among the Tamil-speaking community.
